Implant supported dentures—sometimes called implant-anchored dentures or simply implant dentures—are customized, full-arch restorations designed to replace an entire row of missing or damaged teeth. Unlike traditional removable dentures, implant dentures are held firmly in place by strategically positioned dental implants, creating a secure and lasting tooth replacement solution that both looks and functions naturally.

At our practice, renowned Encino dentist Martin N. Gorman, DDS has helped numerous patients regain the ability to speak, chew, and smile confidently with implant-supported dentures. What Benefits Do Implant Supported Dentures Offer?

Replacing a full arch of upper and/or lower teeth with implant supported dentures can offer several benefits for qualified patients, including:

Am I a Good Candidate for Implant Supported Dentures?

Implant supported dentures can be an excellent option for many individuals needing to replace a complete set of upper and/or lower teeth due to damage, decay, extraction, or tooth loss—including those who are seeking an alternative to traditional removable dentures. Generally speaking, ideal candidates have enough jawbone density to sufficiently support the dental implant posts that are placed to hold the final restoration in place. For patients who have a lower degree of jawbone density, Dr. Gorman may be able to utilize mini dental implants to anchor the denture(s). Due to their narrower design, mini dental implants typically require less jawbone density for successful implantation and are therefore a good option for a broader range of patients.

The Implant Supported Dentures Process

To begin the implant supported dentures process, Dr. Gorman will thoroughly assess your dental wellness and take detailed screenings of your oral anatomy using state-of-the-art technology and resources, such as our 3D Virtual Implant Placement software. This advanced tool allows him to properly evaluate candidacy and precisely identify the most effective sites/angles for implant placement—the latter of which traditionally could not be determined until the time of surgery, sometimes leading to “guesswork” on the part of the dentist. Based on this evaluation, Dr. Gorman can either move forward with treatment, recommend preliminary dental services to improve candidacy, or suggest alternative options.

During the surgical phase of the implant dentures process, Dr. Gorman will meticulously insert the dental implant posts into predetermined locations along the jawbone. Depending on your unique needs, a total of four to six implants per arch will generally be required to provide adequate stability for your final denture restoration. Once placed, the implants will fuse to the bone over the course of a few months through a process called osseointegration, during which time a temporary denture can be worn. However, in the event mini dental implants are used, you may be able to receive your final full-arch restoration during the same visit—a process some refer to as teeth-in-a-day.

Once the dental implants have properly fused to your jawbone, you will return to trade out the temporary restoration for your customized implant supported dentures. If any minor refinements need to be made, Dr. Gorman can typically do so right here at our practice. Once everything looks and feels great, your dentures will be fixed securely into place, and you can walk out of our office with your brand new smile.
